COUPLE: Marcus & Anja
DATE: May 31, 2025
GUEST #: 88
CEREMONY & RECEPTION LOCATION: Rainhard Brewery "We were looking for a venue that had character and charm and that would work with us on our crazy last minute requests. We naturally gravitated to breweries and coffee shops and when we met with the staff at Rainhard we just knew it was going to be our venue. We checked out a few other options but first thought is always the best thought." - A&M
PHOTOGRAPHER: DA Photography "Dragi was the first photographer we met at the first wedding expo we went too. We had such a great connection right off the hop and loved his work. We met with a few other vendors over the next several weeks but just no-one even came close so he was the first vendor we signed! looong before we got a venue or anything else. He was the perfect choice to capture our brewery wedding." - A
COLOUR PALETTE: "Earthy tones, predominantly greens, and whites. The overall theme was rustic elegance and we already loved how much wood and metal was in the brewery so we just wanted to elevate it a bit. Working with our florist we settled on smilax vines as a great cost effective way to add a lot of greenery to the the venue. We then also got additional large money trees from Home Depot to act as our "aisle" and bring more nature indoors. We then just decorated with some baby's breath and white accents and had a venue full of whimsical charm!" - A&M
TELL US YOUR STORY!: "The one thing about us is we love to travel! Our first date ended with us planning a week long sailing trip in Europe 6 months away and our friends collectively agreed we are insane and it was a bad idea - but when you know you know!
A few years, and many adventures later we are backpacking through South America and end up watching a beautiful sunset in the Rosario Islands in Colombia where we got engaged. While engaged we had the pleasure to take part in a close friends wedding where they had a small intimate destination wedding in Lake Como along with a bigger celebration back home in Toronto and the travelers in us fell in love with the idea - if one wedding is good, then 2 weddings is better right?!
We loved the concept that we can spend time and cherish the special moment with our family and then have a big celebration where we can focus on all our friends and really get to spend time and be present with all the people we love rather than trying to pack it all into one day. Also, it's a lot of money and planning for just one day! May as well make a trip out of it too!
Sticking to our Island travel theme we ended up finding a beautiful resort on Isla Majeures Mexico, a small Island just off of Cancun. After we booked though we began to realize the legal challenges of destination weddings and opted to just do a signing ceremony at the Toronto Music Garden before we left, and that's how 2 weddings became 3. Jokes are still flying for when the fourth one is! While in Mexico we spent the week leading up to the wedding in an all inclusive relaxing on the beach and spending time with our family which was the perfect way to slide into fun-filled back to back wedding weekends. Our story is one of spontaneity and light heartedness and we found a way to bring that into our ceremony in the more us way possible." - A&M

BIGGEST CHALLENGE:
"The biggest challenge was just timeline. Given we ended up effectively doing 3 'weddings' in 4 weeks everything came together pretty quick and making sure we didn't miss anything was a challenge. One thing that helped is that we tried our best to get vendors we felt were flexible and easy going with last minute changes and it really helped out. All our vendors were amazing and our bridal party was just awesome so even when things weren't 100% they filled in the gaps and just delivered above and beyond." - A
BEST MEMORY: "There are a lot to choose from but something we think about often was how beautifully the night flowed. From having the 4 piece Serbian 'Romantika' Band play during our ceremony, to immediately dancing after we said our 'I Do's' to traditional music, to seeing everyone walk around with serbian/german food while dancing the night away made everything so perfect. Our wedding was exactly what we had dreamed of - a party full of cultural food, amazing live music/DJ, and great company.
Another one that makes us laugh every time is the fact that we built a staircase for our venue. The brewery has this amazing loading bay with a glass garage door that normally would need some form of railing. Well we wanted to see if we could have more space so we built a staircase that was the perfect photo spot and a really funny conversation topic." - A&M
ADVICE FROM ONE COUPLE TO ANOTHER: "You set the the tone for your wedding, so make sure it's a song you want to dance too. By that we mean the way you carry yourself as the couple dictates how your night is going to go. If you're tense and anxious and snappy - everyone around you including your guests and vendors will be too. Things will go wrong, it's inevitable. Take it in stride, trust your vendors and bridal party to come up with solutions and make sure you're enjoying yourself. No one will remember that the cake has a different icing, but everyone will remember if the couple is not happy. Also - Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty and DIY some stuff - it's fun and saves a bunch!" - A
